Paola Navone

Fish out of water

The Italian designer Paola Navone, who draws inspiration with gourmet gusto from the culture and daily life of the many countries she has visited, is this time inspired by products made in the United States during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Often known as Depression Glass, it was inexpensive and

widely distributed throughout American and Canadian homes of the early 20th Century. It's use spread into coffee shops and diners and now collectible, the original pieces are very difficult to find.

The herring, a wriggling little blue fish, a regular in the Baltic Sea, takes the starring role in Paola Navone's relaxed and playful collection Fish&Fish. The fun chunky pressed glass and its green transparent quality adds a bit of fun fishy business to an aperitif or dinner.
